Diagnosed with diabetes in 1984, Rudy Cole thought his life had been doomed forever. The stress of the diagnosis was enormous for him, with family support and counseling from his physician he learned to adjust to living with his diabetes. In 2009, he noticed his left foot was swollen. He hadn’t notice any pain, just the swelling. He watched his foot continue to swell and continued to walk on it, his foot gradually became worse. By the time the cause of swelling was found, Rudy’s foot had landed him in the emergency room.
Lack of immediate treatment, and continued pressure from Rudy walking on it, a normally harmless
blister had turned into an infected wound. His doctor convinced him to seek specialized

risk losing his foot to a bone infection.
